Lake Wobegon Trail

The trailhead is located across the street from Charlies Cafe and the Pioneer Inn. These two central Minnesota icons served as two inspirations for Garrison Keillor's Chatterbox Cafe and the Side Track Tap in his News from Lake Wobegon stories. There is ample parking and a small picnic shelter. There are no restrooms but the city hall is located across the street and open weekdays and of course the restaurant and bar have restrooms as well.

Trailhead Address:
125 Main St East
Freeport MN 56310
Between miles 102 and 103

Take your family for a walk on the wild side, and experience more than 50 wildlife species from around the world in a semi-natural setting. Our Close Encounters program will get you up close and personal. Pet a penguin, feed the birds in our famous Budgie Buddy House, or get close-up with Cookie, our 8-foot boa constrictor.

As part of our mission to educate young and old about the wonders of the animal kingdom, Hemker Park & Zoo is also available to travel to schools, businesses, and homes with fun and fascinating mobile programs, including petting zoos, the Animals Around the World science and geography initiative, and reindeer sleigh rides.

With so much available, whether it's a family walk around the park, a field trip, birthday party, or other celebration, Hemker Park & Zoo is your stop for fun.

Freeport Black Sox

http://freeportblacksox.com

In 2005 amateur baseball returned to Freeport for the first time in about 50 years. The Freeport Black Sox (formally the Melrose Black Sox) started playing for Freeport in 2005. The first season and a half was played in New Munich because construction of Black Sox Park, the new home of the Black Sox had not been completed. On July 2, 2006 opening ceremonies at Black Sox Park commenced in front of around 500 fans. Tim Laudner, formerly of the Minnesota Twins was on hand to sign autographs and to give praise to the efforts of the small community for the wonderful job done on Black Sox Park.
